Does the administration of Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce operate during the suspension of classes?

In accordance with the Rector's Order No. 69/2020 of 23 March 2020, the university administration is working from 7.30am – to 1pm until further notice. In addition, on-call services are organised to ensure continuity of work. On the other hand, access to the University's buildings by visitorsóis restricted until further notice. We therefore request that you call or e-mail the Head of the relevant unit to arrange the details.

 

Are Dean's Offices functioning during the suspension of teaching?

In accordance with the Rector's Order No. 69/2020 of 23 March 2020 - the Deans of facultiesós/branches are required to ensure the continuity of operation of their subordinate units and proper telephone and electronic communication with students/doctoral students/postgraduate students and staff. Documents not requiring to be submitted in a written form should be sent in electronic form (scans) to the electronic addresses of the individual units. Applications (requests) from studentsó/doctoral studentsó/postgraduate studentsórelated to studies (including, among others, material support) need to be submitted in an electronic form (scans) or via regular mail; other issues related to the studies will be accepted by e-mail or phone. After the cessation of the epidemiological threat, students/doctoral students/ postgraduate students who have submitted applications via e-mail (scans) will be obliged to submit applications in a traditional form.

 

Where can I renew my student card?

The Minister of Science and Higher Education has issued a decree by which the validity of student and doctoral cards has been automatically extended until 31 May 2020.

 

Will the academic year be extended?

The 2019/2020 academic year runs until 30 September 2020 and there are no plans to extend it at the moment. It is possible to extend the delivery of courses in the summer semester in the academic year 2019/2020.

 

What will the delivery of learning activities look like?

All teaching activities conducted at the University shall be suspended until further notice. During the period of suspension of classes, studentsós, doctoral studentsós and postgraduate studentsós are obliged to work on their own and individually complete the material indicated for credit.

Course instructors are required to make teaching materials necessary to complete the course available in a digital form. An e-learning platform, Virtual University, Microsoft Office 365 or other forms of electronic contact can be used for remote teaching. Teaching materials uploaded to the Virtual University by instructors are available in the side menu under "student" then "instructor". In the table with the list of classes in the "Download Documents" column, you can download teaching materials.

Effective from 19 March 2020. Jan Kochanowski University, in an effort to secure the continuity of the educational, scientific and administrative processes, is making the Microsoft Office 356 service available to all employees and students of the University in the full range of the office suite. The service can be used online and also as a desktop application following an installation on a PC. Each user is able to use the service on any 5 devices (desktop and mobile).

The functionalities of Microsoft Office 365 offer the possibility to exchange documents, work on shared documents, organise virtual meetings, and share teaching materials. Details and instructions on how to use the service will be communicated by email and support will be provided by IT staff of the organizations units. Access accounts for the academic staff and students will be set up by the faculty and institute IT staff. Accounts for non-teaching staff will be set up by the employees of the IT Centre.

Classes taught remotely that ensure the achievement of education results will be recognised as having been completed without the need for repeating them. Classes considered not completed will be repeated in a physical setting later in the future. Decisions on the organisation of the remaining classes will be made separately for each course of study. It is possible to extend the delivery of classes in the summer semester in the academic year 2019/2020.

On 13 March, the Rector of JKU, Prof. Jacek Semaniak. PhD hab., addressed a letter to the Deans of the faculties and branches
requesting a review of all teaching arrangements implemented in the summer semester and identifying opportunities to introduce classes using distance learning methods. The Deans were asked to prepare a list of subjects which can be realised remotely within the framework of all courses conducted at the faculty/branch. In particular, this concerns lectures, tutorials, seminars and exercises. Rector suggested that an e-learning platform, the Virtual University or other forms of group digital contact could be used to conduct classes remotely. The information from the Deans is to be communicated to both the Vice-Rector for Education, JKU Prof. Monika Szpringer, PhD hab., as well as to students
by 20 March 2020.

 

Will the recruitment deadline change?

Currently, the recruitment deadlines remain unchanged.

 

Will the scholarships be paid within the stipulated deadlines?

Commitments, such as salaries, stipends and other public and legal obligations, will be implemented according to schedules.

 

Will the JKU Student Houses function during the suspension of classes?

It is recommended that the students who have the possibility to use other accommodation in Poland should vacate the Student Houses. If this is not possible, permission to stay in the Student House during the period of suspension of classes is granted upon individual request of the resident of the student residence. The accommodation for new users of Student Houses is suspended.

 

When will the suspended classes resume?

Classes have been suspended until further notice, so please follow the announcements published on the main website of the University's and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education....

 

Are the Library and Archives operating as usual?

Access to the University Library and the JKU Archives is suspended until further notice. Books can be returned at any time via a book self-checkout station.

 

Where can you seek psychological support?

We would like to inform you that students, doctoral students and employees of Jan Kochanowski University, as well as academic exchange participants from foreign universities, can count on psychological assistance, the need for which is to be reported using the following phone number: 506 112 606.A schedule of psychologist's on-call hours, including the information of assistance in English, will be announced soon.

 

Is the mobility of students and doctoral students restricted? What actions should be taken by a person who had a trip planned for the immediate future , e.g., under the Erasmus+ programme?

In accordance with the Rector's Order No. 50/2020 of 13 March 2020 - all departures and arrivals of foreign students, doctoral students and employees under Erasmus+ and other programmes are suspended until further notice.

 

Is it possible for a student/doctoral student to return to the country after the borders are closed?

As of Sunday 15 March 2020, our country's borders have been closed to foreigners. All Polish citizens who are now abroad can still return to Poland but will be subjected to a mandatory 14-day home quarantine. For more up-to-date information on this issue (including the possibility of returning to the country by plane), see: https://www.gov.pl/web/koronawirus. All students and doctoral students who wish to return will receive support from the Department of International Exchange and Cooperation.

With the further spread of the virus, are there plans to stop classes after 10 April 2020?

In this regard, please follow the announcements published on the homepage of JKU as well as on the website of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

 

What benefits can a student apply for in the event of loss of a source of income?

It is envisaged that the student or a member of their family may apply for an allowance in the event that the student or a member of their family loses a source of income due to restrictions of the operation of their respective employers resulting from the introduction of an epidemic emergency in Poland. In addition, in accordance with the regulations on benefits for students, in the event of a loss of income and thus a change in the material situation of the student and their family, it is possible to apply for a social grant. To meet the needs of students, Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce has sent a letter to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education requesting an increase of funding for the student benefit grants for 2020.

 

Will there be a refund of tuition fees in case classes are completed via remote learning?

Pursuant to Order No. 55/2020 of the Rector of Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce of 18 March 2020 on extending the deadline for payment of fees for educational services provided at Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce, as amended by Order No. 86/2020 of 14 April 2020, the deadline for payment of fees for educational services provided at Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce, the payment of which falls in the period from 12 March 2020. to 20 May 2020 is extended to 30 May 2020.

Students who are removed the list of students (e.g., by resigning) will received a pro rata refund of tuition fees for the classes that were conducted.

Pursuant to Ordinance No. 68/2020 of the Rector of Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce of 19 March 2020, classes that allow achievement of the education results via remote learning will be conducted in remote form. Classes that cannot be taught using distance learning methods and techniques may be transferred to the following year(s) of study. A student completing a course of study in a given field of study will have to achieve all the assumed education results.

 

Do the days off remain the same?

The organisation of the 2019/2020 academic year for full-time and part-time studies is set out in the Rector's Order No. 31 of 29 March 2019. Until amended, all obligations arising therefrom are binding. This also applies to days off.


If we are unable to resume a normal schedule of studies at least until June, and then the currently declared epidemic emergency is suspended, will students need to attend missed courses at a later date and will they be charged a fee?

Classes taught remotely that ensure the achievement of education results will be recognised as having been completed without the need for repeating them. Classes considered not completed will be repeated in a physical setting later in the future. This will not incur any additional fees.



Why can't every subject be taught online?

Some forms of classes provided for in the study curriculum, e.g., laboratory workshops, internships, clinical classes, practical classes in arts subjects, etc., require direct physical access to the premises, tools and resources, as well as and direct contact with the instructor. Therefore, they cannot be taught remotely.

 

Do students pay fees for accomodation in a Student House if they do not live on its premises?

In accordance with the Rector's Order No. 70 of 24 March during the period from the date of leaving the Student House, with the intention of living temporarily elsewhere, until the return of the leaving student/doctoral student, no accommodation fees will be charged. The fees paid upfront for the entire period of accommodation that cover the period when student was has left the Student House with the intention of living temporarily elsewhere, will be credited against subsequent fees.

 

When will there be information on the approval or rejection of the application for a Rector's Award?

In accordance with the Rector's Order No. 67 of 19 March 2020, the list of persons receiving the Rector's Award will be announced by 29 May 2020

 

Will the Juvenalia take place this year?       

Due to the epidemic situation and the resulting restrictions, in consultation with the university council of the student government, we have decided to cancel the Juvenalia events for the 2019/2020 academic year.



Is there a provision for the awards for the students who contribute to the improvement of the remote education system?           

Yes, in accordance with the regulations for granting the Rector's Awards to students.



An acquaintance wants to enroll into a medical faculty this year. Does JKU plan to hold entrance examinations should the secondary school exit exams not take place?       

No, this year's enrolment rules do not provide for entrance examinations at the medical faculty. All arrangements regarding this year's secondary school exit exams are decided by the Minister of National Education.


What will the credits look like in the summer term?           

The form of credits and examinations will depend on the conditions in which the University will operate during and before the examinations. Should it is not possible to receive credits and conduct examinations in regular form, remote completion options will be made available.

 

How is the student supposed to reach the books indicated by the instructor to complete the assigned tasks, in case the libraries are closed and e-books are not available?

In accordance with the Ordinance of the Minister of Health of 20 March, as amended on 24 March 2020, it is prohibited to travel with certain exceptions for, inter alia, meeting the essential needs of daily life. Furthermore, according to the aforementioned Ordinance, the activities of libraries will be temporarily restricted. Similarly, the internal acts of the JKU limit of the contact and enforce strict office procedures in the circulation of physical documents.

Currently, the University Library facilitates full-text publications in a number of databases, e.g., Ebsco, Springer, IBUK (also in Polish). Students can access resources on the websites of the Digital Library Federation and Polona of the National Library. All information can be found on the websites of the University and University Library .

 

Dear Sirs, I defended my doctorate at the JKU Faculty of Law and Social Sciences. I would like to ask about the invoice for the doctoral course and whether there will be a graduation ceremony following the end of the outbreak?

All administrative issues related to contracts and invoice payments are handled on an ongoing basis. A diploma or certificate attesting to the award of a doctoral degree will be available on application sumbitted by mail to the Secretariat of the Vice-Rector for Education. Of course, once the epidemic emergency related to SARS-CoV-2 infections has been lifted, a graduation ceremony is planned.

 

1. Is it possible to organise doctoral examinations and thesis defences during the epidemic emergency? If so, in which mode?
2. What if the doctoral student is, e.g., in quarantine on the scheduled examination date?
3. Is there a possibility of a public doctoral defence during a pandemic?
4. Will the Scientific Councils of the relevant institutes of JKU adopt resolutions regarding the next steps of doctoral dissertations during the pandemic?

According to the regulation of the Minister of Science and Higher Education of 25 March 2020, committees and panels set up in proceedings for the conferment of degrees and titles may adopt resolutions via electronic communication. Remote examinations or thesis defences are therefore allowed. A prerequisite is the use of electronic communication, which allows for a secret ballot and the possibility for outsiders to participate in the public doctoral defence. The form of the examss and defences will depend on the epidemic situation as defined in the regulations issued by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and the Ministry of Health.

 

Will the current situation affect the extension of the total length of doctoral studies under the 'old' system?

It is possible to extend the duration of doctoral studies related to the completion of a research thesis and/or the completion of a full course of study. These issues will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.

 

Are there any planned changes to the curricula of doctoral studies?

Currently, no changes are planned in the curricula of doctoral studies, although schedules or organisation of the studies themselves might be subject to change.

 

Will it be possible to combine courses with similar content?

It is permissible to combine subjects if their education results coincide, following the positive opinion of the educational quality committee, upon request of and in agreement with the course instructors.

 

Will remote teaching count as an internship?

Yes, documented delivery of classes can be counted as a part of the internship.

 

Can it be arranged for online classes to be taught in blocks, not all at once? This is somewhat problematic. And do we get any framework on what exactly and to what extent we will be credited for while working in this mode? We are given homework for a grade - what exactly does this homework give us credit for, and which classes is it relevant to? The seminars, or maybe lectures?

'Homework' may form the basis for partial credit for seminars or exercises. You will be informed of the credit timelines by the course instructors. I kindly ask that the detailed arrangements are determined in consultation with particular class instructors.

 

How will the participation of medical students in activities related tothe epidemic, in the form of volunteering, be treated and where can it be reported?

If the universities are closed until the end of June, how will we get credit for this academic year, given that online clinical classes will not be taken in physical setting? Is it then possible to attend clinical classes e.g., in July, or is something else being considered?

We deliver all theoretical classes, lectures and online seminars. However, summer internships and practical classes may be credited on the basis of participation in COVID-19-related voluntary work, up to 20% of the hours allocated to them. And from 1 May 2020, we are preparing to introduce interactive practical online classes. Credits will be arranged on an individual basis with class instructors.

 

Will hospitals be safe for us after the holidays and will there be any protection measures organized by the University?

Classes in hospitals will be possible only
when the epidemiological threat is over and students are able to take classes in hospitals safely.

 

If we volunteer at medical facilities can we have credit for part of the internship?

Summer internships and practical classes of up to 20% of the ECTS credits allocated for their completion, may be credited on the basis of participation in voluntary activities related to COVID-19 (Regulation of the Minister of Science and Higher Education of 1 April 2020. amending the regulation on standards of education preparing to practice the profession of doctor, dentist, pharmacist, nurse, midwife, laboratory diagnostician, physiotherapist and paramedic - JoL of 2020, item 581)

 

Can we have more simulations prepared for online practical classes?

We plan to hold as many practical classes as possible at the CM Medical Simulation Centre.

 

Will medical students have to eventually take the entire summer semester again and is there a risk of extending the length of the studies?

Our efforts are aimed at such organization of the studies that will avoid retaking the classes
or takim them at later time during the holiday season. Specific arrangements will depend on the development of the epidemic and the findings of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and the Ministry of Health.

 

Is there a possibility that students of the Medical College will be 'forced' to help with the epidemic?

We have absolutely neither wish nor means to force anyone to help with the epidemic relief.

 

Howwill the internships for 3rd year of Paramedic studies be organized?

Specific rules for the implementation and completion of internships for first-cycle and second-cycle studies, uniform master's studies and postgraduate studies in the academic year 2019/2020 during the suspension of teaching are regulated by Order No. 96/2020 of the Rector of Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce of 8 May 2020.
 
Part of the internship will be conducted online. In addition, we plan for a significant part of the practical classes to take place in the Medical Simulation Centre.

 

With regard to extended deadlines for credits and conditional entries that expire e.g., at the end of April. In what form and by what deadline will it be possible to obtain these outstanding credits, is a remote form possible?
