DEPRESSION IN CHRONIC HAEMODIALYSIS PATIENTS

STRESZCZENIE
Depresja jest najczęstszym zaburzeniem psychicznym u chorych dializowanych. Praca niniejsza stanowi przegląd literatury na temat depresji u chorych leczonych przewlekłymi hemodializami. Przedstawiono kryteria diagnostyczne epizodu ciężkiej depresji oraz narzędzia przesiewowe (Skala Depresji Becka, Skala Depresji Hamiltona, Kwestionariusz SF-36) dla identyfikacji objawów depresji wśród chorych przewlekle hemodializowanych.

Wykazano związek między depresją a śmiertelnością oraz hospitalizacją wśród tych chorych. Przedstawiono także etiologię, patofizjologię i leczenie depresji. Dostępne są ograniczone dane odnośnie do bezpieczeństwa i skuteczności leczenia antydepresyjnego chorych leczonych hemodializami. Konieczne są dalsze badania nad narzędziami przesiewowymi dla depresji i jej leczenia u tych pacjentów.

SUMMARY
Depression is the most common psychiatric disorder in dialysed patients. The article is a review of the literature on depression in chronic heemodialysis patients. Diagnostic criteria for major depressive episode and screening tools (Beck Depression Inventory, Hamilton Depression Rating Scale, Medical Outcome Study Short Form 36) for identification of depressive symptoms among patients on chronic haemodialysis are presented. It is proved that there is connection between depression and mortality and hospitalization among these patients. Etiology, patophysiology and treatment of depression are also described. Limited evidence regarding the safety and efficacy of antidepressant treatment of haemodialysis patients is available. Further studies on screening tolls for depression and its treatment in these patients are necessary.
